Quiet, uncrowded slopes
Slopes in the local areas are crowd free, so there is little if any queuing for lifts and consequently more time to ski (slopes are obviously busier during school holiday times but still quieter than at the big commercial resorts).
Wide slopes and more than one route back to base helps provide plenty of space to make your turns and ski in safely, particularly for beginners, young children and nervous skiers.
Extensive ski area
Our ‘Lungo’ ski area in the south of Salzburg has four separate and very different ski areas which we can access from our chalet, providing a huge variety of skiing - three local areas of Fanningberg, Katschberg-Aineck and Grosseck-Speiereck and the larger commercial area Obertauern.
All our local areas have long ski runs with uninterrupted descents, some over 6km long; a great test of stamina for those who like to ski from top to bottom without a stop!
Plenty of safe off-piste skiing.
Guaranteed skiing - almost!
We can not guarantee that you will be able to ski every day you are here, but having a choice of ski areas in different locations gives us the luxury of being able to make a daily choice of the place to ski, based on the weather and snow conditions, so it is very rare to have a day when we cannot ski somewhere.
Snow sure
Due to its unique positioning, the Lungau area has a split weather system; we always get snow from which ever direction it comes.
Excellent snow making and slope preparation at all ski areas keeps them in great condition and ensures a long season.
For more than thirty years Obertauern has had the best snow record in Austria and guarantees skiing from November to May.
All skiing is on pastureland, so the depth of snow required to ‘ski on’ is less.
Fewer people skiing on the slopes means the snow is not ‘worn’ away.
Great value for money
Each resort has numerous traditional mountain restaurants for you to enjoy, with food and drink prices, especially in the three local areas, extremely affordable compared with commercial resorts.
Special priced weeks in January and March with discounted lift pass, lessons, swimming pool entrance and discounted meals at the mountain restaurants.
Free bus travel throughout the area (very occasionally used by our guests as a supplement to the transport we provide).
No carrying your equipment
We drop you slope side at each area just a few metres from the lift, so (except for Fanningberg where there is a short walk up the slope) there is no long distance walking whilst carrying your skis or board.
